A native Oklahoman will be returning to her home state to become the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Eastern Oklahoma State College when the fall semester begins in August.

Brenda Steuer has served as an administrator and professor of business at North Harris College in Houston since 1983.

Steuer says she is looking forward to a return to her home state. She is a graduate of Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City where her family still resides.

She and her husband Mark have owned property north of Wilburton for more than ten years and say they look forward to making Wilburton their home.

Steuer will be replacing Dr. Brad Rice who will be returning to retirement. Rice agreed to come to Eastern for a year as the academic vice president following his retirement from the Georgia higher education system. He says that year has now passed.

Steuer’s career has been dedicated to serving community college students for the past 22 years beginning as an adjunct faculty member teaching accounting and business courses. She became a business professor and Associate Dean of Health Occupations for Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Recreational Sports, Kinesiology and Child Development and Family Studies at the Houston community college.

Steuer received her Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS, in 1977 followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence less than 10 years later from the University of Houston, Bates School of Law in Houston in 1985.

Her professional experience began as a senior tax accountant in the oil industry for Anadarko Production Company and later as a staff attorney for Fulbright and Jaworski in Houston.

Eastern President Dr. Richard Bernard told Eastern Regents who approved her employment by the college during their April meeting that she brings myriad of experience to Eastern.

“Steuer brings experience in accreditation, curriculum development and program review to Eastern,” Bernard said.

“She has extensive experience in community outreach, faculty and staff development and has received recognition for writing and leadership,” he told the regents.

As a volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, Houston Volunteer Lawyers and charity fun runs benefiting juvenile diabetes and museums in the Houston area, she supports and advocates for families, wildlife and the arts.
