"Second
Chance" Program Under Way At Eastern
(Press Release 3-29-05) Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information A “Second Chance” program is in full swing at Eastern Oklahoma State College designed to help former students that have been away from the college for a while but would still like to complete their associate degree. The Second Chance program is made possible by a $58,000 Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Brain Gain Improvement Grant. Officials at the Wilburton college say the objective of the program is to identify, recruit and graduate former students. The target group for the program includes former students who have completed at least 48 hours with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in classes they have attempted. According to Toni Reding who is staff assistant for the Second Chance program “Special scholarship incentives, personalized enrollment and financial aid assistance, greater accessibility through Eastern’s McAlester campus and online courses can make graduation a reality.” Enrollment for the summer and fall semesters begins April 12 and continues through the beginning of each semester. “We can help the student before enrollment to make sure that financial aid is complete and all the paperwork is ready,” Reding said.
