PBL Officers Attend Leadership Training

The 2005–2006 Eastern Oklahoma State College Phi Beta Lambda officer team traveled to the Eastern Oklahoma State branch facility in McAlester for leadership training on September 20. Officers were led by local chapter advisors Estella Bennett–Mask, Linda Morgan, and Debbie Layton.

The training began with officers discussing their definitions of leadership. They each named someone they viewed as an outstanding leader, and told what attributes they felt those leaders possessed that were exceptional.

Officers and advisors discussed What is Leadership? Why Be a Leader? Who Can Be a Leader? What Does a Leader Do? How Do You Learn to Lead? and Group Development. Officers completed a Self Assessment to discover their styles for handling conflict.

Local and national chapter organizations were discussed. Officers then began work on the 2005–2006 Program of Work. The team will present the proposed Program of Work to chapter members for discussion and approval. Following the training, officers and advisors enjoyed dinner at Pete’s  Place in Krebs.

Attending were President Jayme Darragh, Hatfield, AR; Vice President Phylicia Karsh, Canadian; Secretary Jessie Goodin, Eufaula; Treasurer Amanda Mayhew, Wilburton; Reporter Stephanie Stotts, Wilburton; Historian Autumn Wolfe, Canadian; Parliamentarian Ognjen Vlaskalin, Serbia; and Student Senate Representative Mandy Atkinson, Wilburton.

Membership in PBL is open to all Eastern Oklahoma State College students. Future Business Leaders of America–Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., is a national student vocational education association that prepares students for careers in business and business education. Membership is over 260,000 in 11,000 chapters across the United States and abroad. Future Business Leaders of America is the high school division; Phi Beta Lambda is the collegiate division.
