AND THE WINNER IS . . . The winner of the search for the first Eastern Idol competition ended recently with the duo of Justin Eubanks and Jason Stringfellow being named winners of the title. Stringfellow is a sophomore Ag Communications major from Moss and Eubanks is a sophomore Forestry& Soils major from Stilwell. The duo performed “17” while playing guitars. The winners received a trophy and flowers. Eastern Idol finalists were Veronica Allen, Wilburton freshman music major; Ashley Holston, freshman music major from Wilburton; Laurin Masten, freshman Journalism/International Studies major from McAlester; Vanessa Tillery, sophomore Psychology major from Wilburton and Kyle Williams, sophomore Psychology major from Wilburton. The first evening an Idol Imitator competition was won by Catlin Ahtone. The PBL-sponsored event raised over $400 for the KiBois Women’s Shelter for abused and battered women. The drama club, Characters, added to the total donating $100 from a special drawing held at the club’s dance. The club offered special thanks to the judges for the two-day event—Dougo Sims, Ruth Brelsford, Ashley Jackson, and Liz Yeager. Carly Jones was master emcee. They also offered thanks to Lucy Moore, Cody Henry, Jimmy Nabors, Rachel McClure, Keith Lewis, Jennifer Mack, and Amy Fair and special thanks to local merchants Jeri Marley of Talbot Flowers and Gifts and Sunny Cullums of The Trophy Shop and Dan Stone of Eastern’s Horticulture Department.
