Eastern To Offer First Year
Of College In Antlers If you never thought you could go to college because of time or money—Now is your opportunity. College classes will be offered in Antlers for the first time when fall classes begin August 15. Classes designed to jump-start a college degree “close to home” will be offered by Eastern Oklahoma State College at the Antlers Kiamichi Technology Center, 504 Southwest O Street for students in the evenings Eastern officials announced. “Thanks to the efforts of Rep. R.C. Pruett and Sen. Jeff Rabon whose leadership has brought this special opportunity to Antlers, students not been able to travel distances to attend college can get their first year locally,” Wilburton college President Dr. Richard Bernard said. “This opportunity represents a good first start for residents in and around Antlers to begin their college education close to home without the usual travel associated. “We are going to bring college to you,” he said. As an incentive for the beginning program the following are offered: Pruett said as an incentive and introduction to the program “We are offering a Come-as-you-are Open House where everyone can enjoy an informal atmosphere, enjoy dinner on us and gather information about the new special program.” The Thursday (August 3) Open House is slated for 5-9 p.m. at the Antlers Kiamichi Technology Center. Pruett said the menu will include gourmet pizza, chicken buffalo wings, jumbo shrimp, fresh cut fruit, chocolate covered strawberries and much more. “We encourage everyone to attend the Open House and discover what it could mean to you or your family members. “This college program in Antlers could mean a new dream job tomorrow,” Pruett said. “You never know what doors will open with a college education.” The Open House is designed to allow everyone to meet with Eastern staff, Pruett and Rabon to learn how to take the first steps toward a college degree. Eastern staff will answer questions on admission requirements, scholarships, financial aid, testing and others.
