Scrapbooking Workshop To Be
Held On Wilburton Campus People currently interested in the hobby of scrapbooking join many famous people in history such as Thomas Jefferson and Mark Twain. Jefferson was one of the first well-known American scrappers, in a manner of speaking, as he saved newspaper clippings from and during his presidency into a series of albums for future reference. Twain was an avid scrapbooker who dedicated Sundays to enjoy his hobby and had 57 different scrapbooks that he sold through Montgomery Ward catalog. The hobby today is gaining in popularity again as a new generation works to preserve the past for future generations to enjoy. For anyone interested in starting in the hobby or even those who are already an avid scrapbooker, an all day scrapbook workshop will be offered through Eastern Oklahoma State College’s continuing education program. The workshop, taught by Creative Memories Independent Consultant Sarah Akins, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 22nd on the Wilburton campus. The $75 price of the all day event will include instruction, a 24 page expandable album and is complete with all supplies and tools to finish the album. Participants only need to bring approximately 25 photos although more are recommended for a variety of choices. As an added bonus, there will be a short photography lesson in the afternoon for those who are interested. “I can help you quickly and easily preserve precious photos and memorabilia in keepsake, scrapbook photo albums,” Akins said. “Unlike other hobbies, scrapbooking is a craft that will preserve your family's history for the generations yet to come,” she added. Space at the workshop is limited so anyone wanting to attend should register and pay the fee no later than July 18th. For more information call 918-465-1759.
