Area Students Discover 'Show
Business' "There is no business like show business!" Students at CTW: SUMMER ARTS '06 discovered the truth of those words last week in Mitchell Auditorium on the Wilburton campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. The drama camp, co-sponsored by Eastern, the Oklahoma Arts Council, and The Gallery in Wilburton, boasted 59 students for one week of intensive training in drama, dance, voice, and painting. Pictured above, left to right, are: Angela Marshall and Lexi Dix, both from Lakewood Christian Academy, and Kendal Newcomb, all of McAlester; Faith Snellgrove, Booker T. Washington in Tulsa; Tara Nicole Mabry, Kiowa; Allen and Abigail Marshall, Matthew Buckingham, all of McAlester; and Taylor Griffith, Talihina. The music theatre class was taught by Dottie Minshall. Students at CTW: SUMMER ARTS '06 put the finishing touches on their makeup while teaching artist Stephanie Hill looks on. Left to right, students are: Lindsey Reager, Wilburton; Mandi Yates, McAlester; Rebecca Ralls and Zoe Patterson, both of Red Oak; and Brianna Caldwell, Wilburton. Classes in acting, music theatre, improv, painting, mask making, film acting, and hip-hop dance, as well as stage makeup, were taught at Eastern Oklahoma State College, with support from the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Gallery in Wilburton, the Latimer County Arts Council, Wilburton Parks and Recreation, The Trophy Shop, Sharpe's, and Roy's Cardinal. Nathaniel Brelsford, grandson of Ruth and Les Brelsford, and Hayley Nixon, daughter of Doug and Shawna Nixon, all of Red Oak, rehearse for the big race as part of the annual Fourth of July festivities in Red Oak, June 30 and July 1. THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE is the children's offering in the high school auditorium at 8 p.m. Saturday night after the parade and before the fireworks display. The street dance will follow. Other Saturday activities include a 5K race and a softball game while a real turtle race and free snocones are scheduled for Friday evening. All activities are free and good fun for the entire family, courtesy of the Red Oak Committee for Continued Growth. |
