College Governing
Board Elects New Officers Regent policy requires an annual election of officers to include a chairperson, vice-chair and secretary. Additional provisions state that no one individual may hold a position more than two years during a regent's seven-year term. An Eastern regent is recommended by a local state senator, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate for a seven-year term. Stigler businessman Burl Williams, who has been serving as vice-chair, was elected chairman of Eastern’s board replacing Dale Covington, now from Edmond. Assistant Chief of the Choctaw Nation, Mike Bailey, was elected as vice-chair and President of Wilburton State Bank, Ken Bass as secretary. The policy requires officers to be elected during the June meeting each year. Other Eastern regent members include Covington; Mark Jordan, McAlester; John Shero, Wilburton and newly confirmed member Audrey Balentine from Wister who will attend his first regent meeting next month. Balentine will replace two-term McAlester businessman Randell Ward who completed 14 years as an Eastern regent this month.
