(Press Release 03-20-06)
Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information

The USAO ShowBand will be in concert 7 p.m. Tuesday (March 28) in Mitchell Hall Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public.

The band performs jazz, pop and country to find a variety of sounds appealing to a broad audience. In the group’s first three years it has performed a wide range of music from Sinatra to Santana, from the Dixie Chicks to Journey.

This concert will feature Elvis music with Oklahoma City vocalist Brady Odom.

ShowBand vocalists perform over guitar, bass, drums, woodwind and brass instrumentals.

The USAO ShowBand performs under the direction of Joe and Donna Settlemires with the University of Science and Arts, Chickasha.

The group was launched March 2002 with concerts at area colleges and high schools.

“I’ve worked with many professionals in my life,” Director Joe Settlemires says. “But, working with the students at USAO is truly an honor. The group of students in the band is dedicated and truly wants to learn the craft.”

Settlemires has performed on a dozen western swing, jazz and other albums with various artists. He spent years in Nashville, Los Angeles and Las Vegas with prominent artists like Willie Nelson, Della Reese and Bob Hope.

In addition to the USAO ShowBand that will be in concert 7 p.m. Tuesday (March 28) in Mitchell Hall Auditorium on the Eastern Oklahoma State College Wilburton campus the director of the group will host a guitar clinic. Both the clinic and performance are free and open to the public.

ShowBand Director Joe Settlemires will host the guitar clinic from 2 to 4 p.m. in Pratt Hall room 104 on the Wilburton campus.

Settlemires makes his home in Blanchard, but for years has played in Nashville and Las Vegas with prominent artists like Willie Nelson, Della Reese and Bob Hope. His students include famous musicians in bands behind Merle Haggard, the Judds, Neal Diamond and George Strait.

As a performer, he is diverse and has been featured in concerts with orchestral, jazz festivals and bluegrass events. Most of all, he says, he loves teaching.
