Foundation Scholarships for 2006

More than 100 students at Eastern Oklahoma State College received endowment scholarships through the Eastern Oklahoma State College Development Foundation recently at an awards assembly in the Student Union Ballroom on the Wilburton campus. Many of the students were those who had applied for the scholarships in early March and will be incoming freshman when classes begin next fall.

Jayme Reager
Jayme Reager from Wilburton was presented with the Joe and Brenda Coy Scholarship by Kay Langham. Reager will be a freshman majoring in liberal arts and wants to continue her education at Oklahoma State University. She is the daughter of Robert and Lehann Reager. Reager graduated from Wilburton High School and was active in cheerleading, yearbook, 4-H, track, speech and was an All American Cheerleader.

Alisha Carter from Keys was presented with the Karolyn and John Hendrix Scholarship by Kay Langham. Carter is a freshman majoring in nursing and wants to attend Northeastern State University for her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She is the daughter of David and Rebecca Carter. Carter graduated from Keys High School and was active in 4-H Club, FFA, Beta Club, choir, yearbook, science club, academic team and teacher’s aide.

Cody Brown from Whitesboro was presented with the Karolyn and John Hendrix Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Brown is a freshman majoring in nursing and plans to work at the Choctaw Hospital in Talihina as a Registered Nurse. He would also like to raise cattle. Brown is the son of Jack Brown. He graduated from Whitesboro High School and was active in FFA, basketball, baseball, class officer, land judging, CASC Educational Talent Search, church youth group and Eastern Aggie Club.

Tammy Davis from Wellston was presented with the Karolyn and John Hendrix Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Davis is a freshman majoring in agriculture economics and would like to work for the USDA. She is the daughter of John Davis. Davis graduated from Wellston High School and was active in FFA, land judging, livestock judging, speech, SADD, Roots and Shoots, academic team, FCA, Aggie Club, NHS and student council.

Mysona Gray from Panola was presented the Karolyn and John Hendrix Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Gray is a freshman majoring in radiography and plans to become an x-ray technician. She is the daughter of Lesa Price and Leon Gray. Gray graduated from Panola High School and was active in basketball, softball, FFA, FCCLA, yearbook and class officer.

Kelsey Knight from LeFlore was presented with the Kerr Foundation Scholarship by Bill Albright. Knight will be a freshman majoring in agriculture science and would like to have a job relating to human nutrition. Knight is the son or Eric and Kelli Knight. He graduated from LeFlore High School and was active in FFA, FCA, Show Team Member, softball, basketball, FCCLA, Oklahoma Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American High School Students, class officer, student council, academic team, newspaper editor and yearbook staff.

Casey Torix from Checotah was presented with the Kerr Foundation Scholarship by Bill Albright. Torix will be a freshman majoring in environmental science and continue is education at Oklahoma State University to get his bachelor’s degree and work in wildlife management or the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. He is the son of Terry and Lisa Torix. Torix graduated from Checotah High School and was active in FFA and baseball.

Rachel Tubbs from Wilburton was presented with the Kiamichi Electric Corporation Scholarship by Bill Albright. Tubbs will be a freshman majoring in agriculture economics, business administration or psychology. She would like to work with troubled youth utilizing equine therapy. She is the daughter of Joseph Randy and Brenda Tubbs. Tubbs graduated from A Beka Academy and was active in the 4-H, Girl Scouts, Wiburton Roundup Club, AWANA Youth and Quinton Baptist Church.

Daniel Peoples from Haileyville was presented the Mary Beth Guard Award Scholarship by Karin Woodruff. Peoples will be a freshman majoring in Computer Information Systems and would like to become a computer technician. He is the son of Diane and Gary Peoples. Peoples graduated from Haileyville and was active in Business Professionals of America, Technology Students Association, FFA and 4 H Club.

Kaleb Dodd from Savanna was presented the Mary Beth Guard Award Scholarship by Karin Woodruff. Dodd will be a freshman majoring in computer technology science. He is the son of Roy and Sarah Dodd. Dodd graduated from Savanna High School and was active in FCCLA, Spanish Club, English Club, football, track National Honor Society and Who’s Who.

Farron Rae-Lynn Freeman from Heavener was presented the N. Louise Southard Scholarship by Karin Woodruff. Freeman will be a freshman majoring in elementary education from Eastern and then go to Northeastern State University for her bachelor’s degree. She is the daughter of Ray and Tracey Freeman. Freeman graduated from Heavener High School and was active in FFA, Business Professionals of America, basketball and National Honor Society.

Brittany Beauchamp from Wilburton was presented the Latimer County Home and Community Education OHCE Scholarship by Karin Woodruff. Beauchamp is a freshman majoring in nursing and will get her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Northeastern State University. She is the daughter of Larry Gene Beauchamp. Beauchamp graduated from Wilburton High School. She is active in choir, band, tutoring and the Baptist Student Union.

Tyler Lovett from Checotah was presented the Oklahoma Independent Meatpackers by Ed Woods. Lovett will be a freshman majoring in meat processing and food safety and would like to become a Federal Meat Inspector. He is the son of Joe Bob and Dona Lovett. Lovett graduated from Checotah and was active in football, weight lifting and FFA.

Tamra Bell from Wilburton was presented the Oklahoma Independent Meatpackers Scholarship by Ed Woods. Bell will be a freshman majoring in meat science and would like to start her own business after graduation. She is the daughter of Darrell and Rhonda Bell. Bell graduated from Wilburton High School and was active in vocals, FFA, yearbook, 4-H Leadership Camp and Relay for Life.

Aaron Coffman from Ola was presented with the Oklahoma Independent Meatpackers Scholarship by Ed Woods. Coffman will be freshman majoring in meat science and plans to transfer to Oklahoma State University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Meat Science, then on to pursue his PhD at the University of Arkansas. He is the son of Eric Lee and Victoria Coffman. Coffman graduated from Ola High School and was active in FFA, State Farm Degree, Chapter Star Farmer, Chapter Star Greenhand, Yell County Teen Leaders, Arkansas Jr. Hereford Association, 4-H Club, Yell County Cattlemans Association and Arkansas Junior Sheep Association.

Brooke Ross from Stilwell was presented the Pam Shoemake Memorial by Jerry and Janice Shoemake. Ross is a freshman majoring in animal science. She graduated from Stilwell High School.

Anthony Loucks from Haworth was presented the Pam Shoemake Scholarship by Jerry and Janice Shoemake. Loucks will be a freshman majoring in agriculture education and plans to become a teacher. He is the son of Wayne and Janet Loucks. Loucks graduated from Haworth High School and was active in FFA, student council, volunteer firefighter, canned food drive, drama, FCCLA, hunting, fishing and golfing.

Laci Moreland from Atoka was presented the Patricia Thomas Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Moreland will be a freshman majoring in theatre. She is the daughter of Lisa and Greg Henagar. Moreland graduated from Atoka High School and was active in student council, varsity cheerleading, National Honor Society, yearbook, drama and choir.

Heather Pendley from Weleetka was presented the Patricia Thomas Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Pendley will be a freshman majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Dale and Mary Pendley. Pendley graduated from Weleetka High School and was active in basketball, cheerleading, FCA and track.

Grant Jordan from Savanna was presented the Pete Prichard Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Grant will be a freshman majoring in science. He is the son of Gail and Mark Jordan. Grant graduated from Savanna High School and was active in the Spanish Club, student council, prom committee, English Club and FCCLA.

Lauren Covington from Indianola was presented the Puterbaugh Pittsburg County Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Covington will be a freshman majoring in general studies and would like to work in Human Resource Management. She is the daughter of Steve and Candace Cox. Covington graduated from Indianola High School and was active in basketball videographer, Beta, FCCLA, BPA, office aide, library aide, psychology club, Spanish Club, yearbook and All American Scholars Program.

Billie LaVarnway was presented the Puterbaugh Pittsburg County Scholarship by Pat Thomas. She is the daughter of Billy and Evelyn LaVarnway. LaVarnway is the mother of two sons.

Jason Travis from Savanna was presented the Puterbaugh Pittsburg County Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Travis will be freshman majoring in pre-medicine and would like to become an anesthesiologist. He is the son of Kristi Laughlin. Travis graduated from Savanna High School and was active in basketball, Spanish Club, football and baseball.

Cody Wilson from Hartshorne was presented with the Puterbaugh Pittsburg County Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Wilson will be a freshman majoring in architecture and wants to transfer to Oklahoma State University to further his education in architecture and landscaping. He is the son of Donald and Brenda Wilson. Wilson graduated from Hartshorne High School and was active in power lifting, football, FFA, Gifted and Talented Program, Oklahoma Honor Society, National Honor Society and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Raymond Bettinger from Savanna was presented the Ramon Jackson Memorial Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Bettinger is a freshman majoring in environmental science and would like to become a Game Warden or Wildlife Biologist. He is the son of Donny and Kimberly Bettinger. Bettinger graduated from Savanna High School and was active in Aggie Club, FFA and Spanish Club.

Ashley graduated from Wilburton High School and was active in cheerleading, FCS, FBLA, FTA, student council, newspaper, choir, basketball and softball.

Kristina Hill from Laytonville was presented with the Richard D. and Barbara Hartigan Scholarship by Jim Helmert. Hill is a freshman majoring in nursing and plans to go into nursing. Kristina is a single mother of four children. She has been employed at Franklin Electric for over eight years.
