Foundation Scholarships for 2006

More than 100 students at Eastern Oklahoma State College received endowment scholarships through the Eastern Oklahoma State College Development Foundation recently at an awards assembly in the Student Union Ballroom on the Wilburton campus. Many of the students were those who had applied for the scholarships in early March and will be incoming freshman when classes begin next fall.

Autumn Nelson from Wister was presented the Robert Borden Scholarship by Marilynn Duncan. Nelson will be a freshman majoring in agriculture education. She is the daughter of Pat Nelson. Nelson graduated from Wister High School and was active in FFA, FCCLA, choir, yearbook, and class officer.

Rachel Skimbo from Wilburton was presented the Ross and Margaret Harlan Scholarship by Marilynn Duncan. Skimbo will be a freshman majoring in accounting. She is the daughter of James and Susan Skimbo. Skimbo graduated from Wilburton High School and was active in yearbook, basketball, National Honor Society, vocal music, Service Learning, newspaper staff and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Brooke Jones from Porum was presented with the Seldon Taylor Scholarship by Marilynn Duncan. Jones will be a freshman majoring in education and would like to teach English and yearbook/newspaper sponsor. She is the daughter of Raymond and Terri Durossette. Jones graduated from Porum High School and was active in National Honor Society, FCCLA, photography, academic team, student council and yearbook.

Kala Smith from Canadian was presented the Southwestern Bell Telephone Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Smith will be a freshman majoring in pre-medicine and would like to become a doctor. She is the daughter of Kinley and Faith Smith. Smith graduated from Canadian High School and was active in basketball, softball, academic team, student council, Teens for Christ, class officer and prom committee.

Tyler Price from Oolagah was presented with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Price will be a freshman majoring in pre-dentisty and English and would like to become a dentist. He is the son of Robert and Donna Price. Price graduated from Oolagah-Talala High School and was active in Talala First Baptist Church Youth Group, student council, varsity wrestling team, varsity tennis team, Students in the Light and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Leslie Sutherland from McAlester was presented with the Thomas L. Crawford, R.N. Memorial Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Sutherland is a freshman majoring in nursing and would like to continue her training in crisis and disaster responses. She is the daughter of Odon Sutherland and Cindy Baugh. Sutherland graduated from McAlester High School and was a member of the Oklahoma Student Nurse’s Association.

Jamie Mouser from Stigler was presented the Vastar Resources Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Mouser will be a freshman majoring in dentistry. She is the daughter of Bobby and Vicki Mouser. Mouser graduated from Stigler High School and was active in softball, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Technology Students of American, Drug Free Youth and All Conference Softball Team.

Kara Haile from Savanna was presented the W. E. “Bill” Alford Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Haile will be a freshman majoring in elementary education and would like to be a Cheer Coach along with teaching. She is the daughter of Robert and Joann Haile. Haile graduated from Savanna High School and was active in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, National Honor Academy, National Honor Roll, Oklahoma Honor Society, S.T.A.R.S event, student council, cheerleading, SWAT, Spanish Club and academic team.

Sandra Hemphill from Denison was presented the W. H. and Joan Sutton Scholarship by Viki Vogt. Hemphill is a freshman majoring in business administration and would like to work for a large corporation in financing or open her own business. She is the daughter of Kimberly Hemphill. Hemphill graduated from Denison High School and was active in softball, basketball, Spanish Club, Art Club, FCA, National Honor Society and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Regina Ferguson from McAlester was presented the Wanda Bohanon Scholarship by Karin Woodruff. Ferguson will be a freshman majoring in English. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Ferguson. Ferguson graduated from McAlester High School and was active in band, drama, debate, academic team and BPA.

Jayce Prock from Red Oak was presented the Wilbur and LaVerne Smith Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Prock will be a freshman majoring in general studies. He is the son of Greg and Suzanne Prock. Prock graduated from Red Oak High School and was active in FFA, Livestock Judging, Oklahoma High School Honor Roll and Cedars Church of Christ.

Jonathan Wynn from Wilburton was presented the Wilburton State Bank Scholarship by Pat Thomas. Wynn is a freshman majoring in business administration and would like to go into pre-law and the military. He is the son of Ronnie Wynn. Wynn graduated from Wilburton High School and was active in football, track, baseball and FFA.

Joshua Alford was presented the Kensel and Dortha Lee Tucker Scholarship by Bill Albright. Alford will be a freshman majoring in agriculture business and wants to receive his degree in Agri-Business and return to Latimer County to expand his families business in Red Oak and raise cattle on their farm. He is the son of Sharon and Jimmy Alford Jr. Alford graduated from LeFlore High School and was active in State FFA Degree, FFA, class officer, basketball, baseball and the Livestock Judging Team.
