Theatre Eastern Spring Schedule To Include 'Oklahoma'
(Press Release 01-12-07)
Hank Mooney, Office of Public Information

Eastern Oklahoma State College’s theatre department has announced its spring season schedule, and it is to include one of the most famous musicals ever to hit the stage, Oklahoma!

“Since this is the centennial, we thought Oklahoma! would be appropriate,” Theatre Eastern director Debra Collins Bailey said. “Although this is not an official centennial project, we thought it would be a good way of celebrating.”

Theatre Eastern first kicks off its season with a Valentine Dinner Theatre production of Neil Simon’s comedy, Last of the Red Hot Lovers. The fundraiser show will be presented at 6 p.m. on Feb. 15, 16 and 17 and will be by reservation only. The menu will include apple salad with peppercorn ranch dressing, lemon pepper chicken breast, twice baked potato, black forest cake and roll. Ticket prices will be announced at a later date.

Lovers is the story of Barney Cashman who decides that life is passing him by and he decides to have an afternoon of romance with someone other than his wife. Needless to say, in the comedic world of Neil Simon, things don’t turn out quite the way as Barney envisioned them.

Theatre Eastern’s next production will be an Evening with Shakespeare on March 29 and 30. Selected scenes from various William Shakespeare works will be presented.

Closing out the season will be Oklahoma! at the end of April.

“We will be opening up the auditions to anyone in the area who would like to participate (in Oklahoma!),” Bailey said. Open auditions will be the first week of March.
