Summer Children's Theatre
Workshop Announced Theatre Eastern announces the dates for "Children's Theatre Workshop: Summer Arts '08," as June 9-20, on the Wilburton campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. The popular summer camp, which is cosponsored by the Eastern theatre department, the Oklahoma Arts Council, and The Gallery at Wilburton, boasts an expanded curriculum this year, according to Dottie Minshall, children's theatre director. "In response to the popularity of the visual arts elective, we are adding visual arts as a major emphasis and expanding to two weeks in order to accommodate our ever-increasing enrollment," Minshall says. The first week of camp, June 9-13, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. daily, will focus on children who have completed 4th through 8th grades. Students will choose to spend the bulk of their day on either visual arts or performing arts. Children will, as always, have the opportunity to choose an elective class in the afternoons. Tuition is $50 plus a materials fee for visual arts majors. Children who have completed 1st through 3rd grades will attend a Creative Dramatics session, June 16-20, 9 a.m.-12 noon. Tuition is $35. High school students who have completed 9th-12 grades will have the opportunity for a more intensive course of study in theatre, music, or visual arts that same week, 1-5 p.m., daily. Tuition is $35 plus a materials fee for visual arts students. Scholarships are available, courtesy of the Wilburton Parks and Recreation, the Latimer County Arts Council, and various local businesses.
