Ag Students, Instructors Present Swine Workshop At Area School Red Oak grade school and high school students gather for a photo recently after a Red Oak 4-H and FFA Booster Club sponsored workshop for parents and students interested in showing swine. As part of the workshop, a presentation called “Taking Care of the Details” was presented by Eastern Oklahoma State College Live Animal Specialist Troy Walker, far left. Topics discussed in the presentation were, understanding swine nutrition needs, housing and bedding, medications, required show equipment and proper grooming techniques. Following the presentation, Eastern agriculture students Eric McAlexander from Archie, MO; Macy Vansickle, Bennington and Colton Downing from Grove gave examples of proper ways to present and show a hog. Eastern Livestock Judging Coach Todd Blocker, second from right, acted as the judge for the hands on portion of the program. After the presentations all the 4-H and FFA members had the opportunity to try their hand at the various showmanship styles and techniques discussed. Also pictured far right is Red Oak Agriculture Instructor Brett Reines.
