Sonic Donates Incentives For Area Students The Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP for a Brighter Tomorrow project is designed to meet the needs of low–income, underserved and underrepresented students in 19 geographically isolated, rural schools located in five southeastern Oklahoma counties, within the Choctaw Nation. Eastern Oklahoma State received a $6.7 million federal GEAR UP grant and is in its second year of implementation. “Sonic strives to do its best to make sure Sonic is a good family–oriented business,” Pitts said. “We support local schools and are happy to be a part of the GEAR UP for a Brighter Tomorrow project.” Pitts has worked for Sonic for four years. He was named manager of the Wilburton Sonic four months ago. His wife manages the Sonic in Hartshorne. “This is a tremendous contribution,” said Morgan. “The GEAR UP grant is designed to encourage students to do their best. Everyone loves Sonic. This will be a great reward for students.”
