Two Eastern Students
Make All-Oklahoma Academic Team Thirty Two members of the All-Oklahoma Academic Team were recognized on Thursday, March 6, at the 41st Annual Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges Conference in Midwest City including two Eastern Oklahoma State College students. The Program provides statewide recognition to outstanding two-year college students. To be eligible, students must be nominated by their college president to the All-USA Academic Team. Nominees must be eligible to graduate during the 2008-2009 academic year and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25. Eastern sophomores Eric Shaw from Antlers and Kalah Smith from Eufaula were among those recognized as outstanding two-year college students. Shaw is majoring in Agronomy/Animal Science and intends to transfer to Oklahoma State University from Eastern. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, a Presidential Scholar, named to Who’s Who Among American College Students and was Valedictorian of his high school graduating class. He has also received a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship to attend OSU. Smith is a Pre-Vet major, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and plans to transfer to Oklahoma State University. She was Valedictorian at her high school and is on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Eastern and part of Eastern’s Honors Program. She has also received a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship to attend OSU. Oklahoma is one of thirty-five states participating in the State Academic Team Program. The State Academic Teams were introduced in 1994 as a way to provide scholastic recognition to community college students, while promoting excellence at two-year colleges. The State Academic Teams are a division of the Academic All-American Team for Community, Technical and Junior College Students, an international program sponsored annually by Phi Theta Kappa, USA TODAY and the American Association of Community Colleges. The All-Oklahoma Academic Team is designed to provide the same kind of recognition to our state’s two-year college scholars by saluting their academic achievement, leadership and service.
