Society Earns Top Status For 5th Straight Year Story by Patsy Robertson, Eastern Journalism Student Eastern Oklahoma State College Theta Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently returned from the Arkansas/Oklahoma Regional Conference in Ardmore with several honors, including the highest “5-Star Chapter Award” that any local honor society chapter can achieve. This marks the fifth straight year that Eastern’s chapter of PTK has earned the status. “I am really proud of the officers and the members who helped make this year a success,” said Brenda Kennedy, PTK adviser. “Achieving 5-Star status is hard work and challenging at times, but in the end, very rewarding.” PTK received 1st place in the Arkansas/Oklahoma Region Leadership Hallmark Award, 5th place in the Arkansas/Oklahoma Region Service Hallmark Award, Jacquelyn Meyer (Preston) received 1st place Arkansas/Oklahoma Region Distinguished Chapter Member Award and Eric Shaw received 3rd place Arkansas/Oklahoma Region Distinguished Chapter President Award. Chapter projects for PTK throughout the year included Voice Voter registration and the Toys for Tots program. Phi Theta Kappa is a national scholastic honor society with local chapters at colleges and universities across the United States.
