Arts Council The Latimer County Arts Council announces their final concert for the year with Les Brelsford, Circuit Rider for the Oklahoma Arts Council in the southeastern quadrant and ad junct instructor in theatre at Eastern, and Kathy Brod, pianist from McAlester, performing selections from Verdi, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven and Copeland, Tuesday, June 10, 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilburton. Les has sung with Des Moines Opera and has a degree from the prestigous vocal program at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. His Master's of Fine Arts degree is in Theatre Direction. Kathy Brod is a native of Talihina, but has studied, performed, and taught music all over the world. "Both are gifted musicians," according to the President of the Latimer County Arts Council. "The concert series has been very successful," says Ruth Askew Brelsford, president of the Latimer County Arts Council. "It is exciting that we have so much talent and professional arts background in our community. We are planning to broaden our repetoire next year with a classical guitarist, a percussionist, and an "easy listening/old standards" vocalist." Tickets are $10 and the proceeds will be used to finance arts programming in the four school districts of Latimer County. They are available at The Gallery in Wilburton, at Wilburton Main Street, and will be available at the door on the night of the concert. Examples of the kinds of programming the LCAC has brought to our area are Richard Hight, visual artist and motivational speaker; Byron Berline, bluegrass; Michael Ginsburg, violinst; Tim Tingle, Choctaw story-teller; and Gene McFall's one-man show of Will Rogers.
