GEAR UP students at Antlers High School who were determined as “Algebra Ready” by their teachers were given the TI–Nspire calculator by Texas Instruments. The TI–Inspire is a versatile learning tool for pre–algebra through calculus.

The Eastern GEAR UP six–year grant is in the third year of implementation and now serves 23 schools in southeastern Oklahoma.

“Over 750 GEAR UP students in the 23 partner schools received calculators this fall,” said GEAR UP Project Director Linda Morgan. “We hope the calculator will be a useful tool to the students as they move into advanced mathematics classes.”

The calculator is permitted on college entrance and advanced placement exams. The TI–Nspire handheld comes with the interchangeable TI–84 Plus Keypad that provides compatibility with the TI–83 Plus and the TI–84 families of graphing calculators.
