Newly Renovated Swimming
Pool Now Open After more than three months of renovation, Eastern’s indoor, olympic-sized swimming pool, used by the college and surrounding communities on the Wilburton campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College has opened again for the fall semester. “Beginning May 15th, we began draining the pool so that leaks could be repaired and also so that new grate covers can be installed on the bottom of the pool would be compliant with Oklahoma Health Department rules changes,” Physical Plant Director Rudy O’Donley said.“The entire pool was sand-blasted so it could be re-painted and re-striped. “There were also other remodeling and repairs done to the pool area including cleaning and re-painting the walls and ceiling and we will be eventually replacing the diving boards,” he added. While this was the first major repairs since the facility opened, it’s back to business as usual according to Eastern swimming instructor Loma Messex. “Starting last Tuesday (Aug. 11), we opened the pool for open swimming with a schedule that will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday,” she said. “This week the pool opens for students from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. “Water exercise classes are scheduled for 8 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Messex said. She also said that Eastern still has the senior citizens discount for the classes and she will be glad to help the community students enroll for the classes. “So just show up for the class and we will make it happen,” she said.
