New Student Center To Be Dedicated

Dedication and open house for the new Student Center on the Wilburton campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College is slated for 1:30 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 27).

Construction on the new facility began just over one year ago. The two-story building is the first building constructed on the Wilburton campus since Sullivan Hall was built in 1968 as the science building.

Eastern President Dr. Steve Smith said the building will be opened for tours at 1:30 pm with a program to follow in the second story ballroom. Food, music and entertainment will be provided with special entertainment by the Choctaw Nation Little Dancers.

“We are extremely excited about the completion of the new facility,” he said.

“The building dedication is a day of celebration for Eastern and all those we serve.

“We encourage members of our local communities to come and take a tour of this beautiful addition to the campus.

“The new Student Center will not only enhance the quality of life for our students and staff, but will provide a new book store, dining facility and meeting rooms for our community as well,” he said.

The 31,000 square-foot facility is financed as part of the 2005 state higher education bond issue.

Eastern has constructed two buildings on the McAlester campus in the last few years but no construction other than an addition to the administration building and the clock tower has occurred on the Wilburton campus in more than 40 years.

The Student Center hosts a number of facilities including a cyber café for short order food daily, expanded book store, student lounge and cafeteria, a ballroom, class room, student senate offices and meeting room, the Dean of Student’s offices and an elevator to the second floor.

Area Representatives along with Sen. Richard Lerblance, Chancellor Glen Johnson and local dignitaries will be attending.
