Former NBA Player To Be Inducted Into Alumni Hall Of Fame

    Homecoming at Eastern Oklahoma State College will involve a myriad of activities starting Saturday (Oct. 31) with a Halloween Carnival  from 4 to 7 pm and continuing through the week ending the following Saturday (Nov. 7) with a tailgate party at the Student Center Circle and traditional home basketball games.
 
    Eastern Oklahoma State College Alumni have named Sam L. Sibert from Arlington, TX, as the twenty-sixth inductee into the Eastern Alumni Hall of Fame since the program began in 1988.
 
    Sibert will officially join the Eastern Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet 6 p.m. Friday (Nov. 6) in the Student Center Ballroom on the Wilburton campus. Contact the Eastern Alumni Office for reservations at 918.465.1759.
 
    Sibert, a member of the Eastern class of 1970, is also a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington. Marcus Haynes from the Harlem Globetrotters and Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Tom Colbert will introduce Sibert at the Hall of Fame Banquet.
 
    While at Eastern Sibert broke all rebounding records under Coach Don Brown and went on to Kentucky State University under Coach Lucius Mitchell where Sibert helped lead his team to two NAIA national championships. In 1972 Sibert was drafted into the National Basketball Association as the first draft choice by the newly franchised Kansas City-Omaha Kings coached by Bob Cousy.
 
    He says he feels his most rewarding accomplishment following his basketball career is founder and CEO of S.L. Sibert Company, a major utility corporation. He built one of the largest construction companies in north central Texas with more than 250 employees operating in several states including Oklahoma, as he says “coming full circle to where it all began, Eastern Oklahoma State College.”
 
    The Wilburton college will have a homecoming parade Saturday (Nov.7), beginning at 10 a.m. through downtown Wilburton.
