
Teresa Jackson Becomes
New Eastern Regent Hartshorne community leader and Choctaw Nation healthcare administrator Teresa Jackson, was sworn in by Wilburton Mayor Stephen Brinlee as the newest member of the Eastern Oklahoma State College Board of Regents during their regularly scheduled meeting Thursday (8-27-09) morning. Jackson was named by Gov. Brad Henry to fill the position left open when Regent Ken Bass elected not to be renamed for a second term on the Eastern Oklahoma State College Board of Regents. Eastern regents are recommended by the local senator to the Governor who makes the appointment subject to confirmation by the state senate for seven year terms. Jackson joins other board members Mike Bailey, Chairperson from Durant; Mark Jordan, Vice Chairperson, McAlester; Loise Washington, Secretary, McAlester; Audrey Balentine, member, Wister; John Shero, member, Wilburton and Burl Williams, member, Stigler. She received her Associate of Science in Business Administration in 1985 from Eastern followed by her Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, in 1987. She began working for the Internal Revenue Service in Tulsa and McAlester as an auditor and later as an instructor training newly hired employees. Later she began as comptroller for the Choctaw Nation Health Care system in Talihina and later as Chief Financial Officer. Jackson now serves as chief administrator which includes overall management of the Choctaw health care system including a 37 bed hospital and multi-specialty clinic in Talihina and seven clinics located across southeast Oklahoma which employees more than 800 people system wide that hosts 200,000 patient visits per year.
