Stuart native becomes new Eastern regent

Wilburton Mayor Stephen Brinlee swore in Eastern Oklahoma State College regent Denton McNutt from Stuart at the beginning of the community college monthly regent’s meeting Friday on the Wilburton campus.

Eastern regents are recommended to the governor for appointment by the local state senator and approved by the senate for seven year terms. He is replacing Eastern regent Mark Jordan from McAlester whose term had expired.

McNutt graduated from Stuart High School in 1959; from Eastern in 1961 with his associate degree; his bachelors in 1963 from Oklahoma State University and later received his Masters in 1989 from East Central University.

He married Carol Loftis in 1962. They have two children; Janna McIntosh from Stuart and Lesli Grinnell, Shawnee, and four grand children. McNutt retired from Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and is currently ranching near Stuart.

He said he is “looking forward to giving back to an institution of higher learning that I have attended. It is my hope that I can be a positive influence on the board and continue the good work of this college in southeastern Oklahoma.”

McNutt served ten years on the Stuart Public School board.
