Eastern hires new GEAR UP team members

WILBURTON, OK (Jan. 12, 2012) –The GEAR UP program at Eastern Oklahoma State College has added three new team members. Mona Enloe is the new assistant professional development coordinator, and Twylia Kelley and Kamy Patterson have been named as education coordinators.
Enloe previously worked for the Oklahoma State University Extension Service and brings extensive experience in making presentations to both adults and students. She will be working with the professional development coordinator to plan activities that assist teachers in infusing active learning into classrooms as well as presenting professional development workshops for teachers and participating in a variety of GEAR UP conferences, camps and training.
As education coordinators, Kelley and Patterson will provide GEAR UP students with academic and career advising, mentoring, financial aid, tutoring and college and career awareness programs.
Kelley is an Eastern alumna with previous experience working with GEAR UP camps during the first year of the 2006-2011 grant. She graduated from East Central University and has been teaching at Haywood Elementary. She will work with GEAR UP students at Haileyville, Hartshorne and McAlester.
Patterson brings 24 years of experience working with students on all levels through junior high and has been teaching at Krebs Public School. She will be working with students in Pittsburg, Atoka, Savanna and Stringtown.
The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal initiative to increase the number of low-income students who enter and successfully transition into postsecondary education. Eastern will receive $12,625,000 over the next seven years to serve current sixth and seventh grade students throughout high school graduation and college admission.
