Clogging for the fun of it! Clogging Demonstration:
Instructor Geneva Ford and The Rhythm Clog Dancers will give a clogging demonstration as an introduction and informational meeting for the upcoming clogging classes to be held on the Eastern campus. Under the direction of Geneva Ford, The Rhythm Clog Dancers have performed at festivals throughout this region and have won awards at national competitions in Branson, Dallas, Kansas City and Nashville, Tennessee. Clogging is becoming more popular because of standardized steps and the increased interest in Southern Appalachian heritage. Appalachian clogging is a blend of Irish, Scottish and English dances brought to this country by early settlers. The recent fascination with all things Irish has helped revive interest in Appalachian dance. Millions watched a North Carolina clogging group kick and click at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The Irish group Riverdance, with its modern version of the jig that inspired American clogging earned a Grammy and a spot on the Academy Award program. Come join the fun for the entire family!
