. | Eastern Meats Judging Team Wins First Place Eastern Meats Judging Team captured First Place Overall in the 2000 EXCELL High Plaines Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Plainview, TX, along with a Second Place Overall at the 2000 American Royal Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest held in Emporia, KS. The Eastern team was in competition with 13 teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Illinois in the EXCELL competition and received a $4000 scholarship donation to the department for their third consecutive win at the meet. The team placed first in Beef Grading, Pork Judging, Beef Judging and Total Beef; third in Questions, fourth in Placings and sixth in Lamb Judging. Team members include, from left: Coach Roger Stites; Todd Dickinson from Sallisaw; Chris Tracy, Maysville; Chad White, Crowder; Kenny Ruiz, Clovis, CA, and Carrie Manley, Buffalo Valley.
The team placed first in Beef Grading, Pork Judging, Beef Judging and Total Beef; third in Questions; fourth in Placings and sixth in Lamb Judging. Individuals placed: Manley first in Beef Grading, fourth in Placings and tenth Overall. Ruiz placed first Overall, first in Placings, second in Lamb Judging, third in Beef Grading, fourth in Questions and tenth in Pork Judging. Tracy finished first in Beef Judging. At the American Royal competition, Eastern placed first in Lamb Grading, Pork Judging and Questions taking second in Beef Judging and fourth in Beef Grading. As individuals, Manley finished second in Questions, fourth in Lamb Judging and tenth Overall. Ruiz placed third in Lamb Judging, third in Beef Judging, third in Questions and sixth Overall. Dickinson placed second in Pork Judging, third in Placings and seventh Overall. White finished fifth in Lamb judging and Tracy finished third in the Alternate Contest. |
