. | Eastern Mens Basketball Team Ranked 9th in the Nation Eastern Athletic Director Jerry Smith said that when the November 28, 2000-2001 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll was announced Tuesday, the Eastern Mountaineers were ranked ninth in the nation. "We haven't been ranked that high in more than 12 years," Smith said. "Men's Coach Jimmy Voight and I are excited about the ranking. It's Voight's first year coaching at Eastern and if the team continues to play well, we could even go higher in the national rankings by the first of the year." The Mountaineers hold a 7-0 record as November ends. They have three games between now and the first of the year including November 30, Northark at Harrison AR; December 2, Northern, Tonkawa, at Eastern and December 7, Rose State at Midwest City. Smith said the entire team has been playing well and five Mountaineers have been averaging more than 10 points per game including Michal Ignerski, 6' 10" sophomore with 18 points per game; Andrius Sakalys, 6' 6" sophomore averaging 13.5; Bobby Thompson, 6' 3" sophomore averaging 13.2; Tobias Brinkley, 6' 4" sophomore averaging 12.5 and Luiz Lemes, 6' 3" freshman with 10 points per game. The team has averaged 88 points per game, 52 total steals and an outstanding 41 percent 3-point shooting average. The Mountaineers have dominated their opponents with an average winning margin of 15 points per game.
