Livestock Judging Teams Take Top Honors
October 27, 2000

Livestock judging teams at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton have kicked off the year placing well against 20 teams from across the nation at regional competition including first and second team overall honors at the Tulsa State Fair Livestock Judging Contest and making a good showing at two other competitions as well.

Eastern sophomore Livestock Judging Team members took first place overall, at Tulsa competition as well as first in cattle and swine judging and fifth in sheep and third in reasons. The freshman team placed second team overall, second in cattle, third in swine and third in team reasons.

Sophomore team members include Tawni Persinger from Battiest; Dustin Clardy, Idabel; Kevin Webb, Pawnee; Alan Lee, DeQueen, AR, and Ty McKiddy from Stroud. Freshman team members include Kole Sutton from Velma; Derek McPherson, Duncan; Justin Peck, Coweta; Kile Furr, Hugo; Morgan Hamlin, Quinton and Paige Merida from Ft. Towson. McKiddy took first place overall individual as well as third in cattle and second in swine while Persinger took third in reasons.

Freshman team member individual placings included Hamlin, second in cattle judging; Peck, fifth in cattle and ninth overall; Sutton placed fourth in swine, fourth in reasons and sixth overall while Merida placed tenth overall.

In the Mid-America Classic Livestock Judging Contest in Wichita, KS, the sophomore team placed sixth overall, fifth in reasons, second in swine and second in sheep. The freshman team placed second overall, first in sheep, fourth in swine, fifth in cattle and fourth in reasons.

Individual placings on the sophomore team included: Persinger, second in sheep, second in swine, third in reasons; Lee placed fourth in sheep and fifth in swine. Freshman team individuals included: Sutton, second overall, third reasons and first in sheep; Peck, second in sheep and McPherson third in sheep.

At the Arkansas/Oklahoma State Fair Livestock Judging Contest in Ft. Smith, AR, the sophomore team placed fourth overall, third in cattle judging, first in swine and second in reasons. The freshman team placed second team overall, third in cattle, fifth in swine and second in sheep and reasons.

Individual sophomores placed: Persinger, fourteenth individual overall, second in swine and fifth in reasons; Clardy placed sixteenth overall, first in swine and sixth in reasons; Lee placed eighteenth overall, first in cattle and tenth in reasons; McKiddy placed seventh in reasons.

Individual freshmen placings included: Furr, fifth overall, sixth in cattle, fourth in sheep and seventh in reasons; Hamlin placed sixth overall and fifth in swine; Sutton placed third in reasons.
