What's New For February, 2010

 American Heart Association

February is traditionally associated with hearts! The Valentine's Day holiday is of course in February, and it is also the month designated as American Heart Month, with its emphasis on learning more about heart disease. Heart disease is the number one killer of American women! The symptoms of a heart attack vary in me and women, so it benefits us all to learn more. One web site is www.americanheart.org

February is also Black History Month, honoring the achievements of Black Americans. The library has many good biographies on Black-Americans, some in traditional book format and some on audio-tape/CD.

February is also a month, however, which can cause depression. The short winter days affect many people's moods and it can be a time for colds and 'flu. Even Valentine's Day can put stress on people. Eastern's Library Media Center has books and materials to lighten depression!

We have several interesting displays this month: one featuring romantic inspiration, one featuring materials honoring Black Americans, and one with  materials on heart health. Drop by the media center, see the displays, check out a book or tape, and feel better!
