An audition will be required for students planning to major in music as well as non-music majors wishing to receive a scholarship, discounted tuition, or discounted housing award.

Please indicate your preferred audition date by filling out and submitting the Audition Registration Form. If you would like to audition, but cannot make one of the audition dates, please contact Amy Swain to schedule your audition. Registered students will receive an audition packet with a schedule for the selected audition day, audition requirements, and other important information.

Please be sure to apply for admission to Eastern Oklahoma State College. Your audition gives you admittance to the music program and scholarships, however, you must also apply to the college and be accepted.

Audition Requirements

In addition to the following instrumental, vocal, and/or piano requirements, all students planning to major in music will complete a music theory exam to determine theoretical knowledge. This test informs the Department of Music of your current understanding and allows for proper planning of the Elementary Music Theory and Ear Training course. Additionally, students displaying severe theoretical deficiencies will be required to take MUSIC 1102 Fundamentals of Music during the summer session prior to taking MUSIC 1114 Elementary Music Theory and Ear Training in the fall semester.

If you are planning to major on multiple instruments, you must complete an audition for each instrument.

Auditions are not meant to exclude students from studying music at Eastern Oklahoma State College. They are intended to help our staff plan for the upcoming academic year and determine scholarship disbursements.

A solo or etude of your choosing. Selections should contain contrasting styles and techniques. For example, a slow section and a fast section; an articulated section and a legato section.
Major Scale(s) and a Chromatic Scale
Piano Proficiency: This can be through an etude, solo, or scales. If you don’t play the piano, don’t worry, we are only looking to gauge your current ability.
Snare Drum Rudiments
Mallet Percussion Etude or Solo.

An art song or song from the classical repertoire. Accompaniment is appreciated but not required. If you need accompaniment you must provide your own.
Sight singing and basic ear training to gauge your ability to retain pitch.

One movement of a Sonata. Preferably by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven.
