WILBURTON, Okla. – Eastern Oklahoma State College students in the ranch operations - stocker management program recently received more than $21,500 in total profits for the sale of their stocker cattle this spring.
With the loan assistance from The Community State Bank, Eastern students Keaton Herrmann, Brycen Otey, Collin Rindal, AJ Russel and Travis Tilley purchased 135 steers in early November 2021. The students cared for the animals for approximately six months and then sold them in late April 2022. The Community State Bank provided the loans needed to purchase the cattle and after the original loans were repaid, each student received $4,310.72 in profits.
"This is an extremely valuable and unique opportunity for students from a variety of backgrounds to get hands-on experience in the beef cattle industry,” said Chris Hall, EOSC stocker management specialist. “We greatly appreciate The Community State Bank and Shero ranches for working with our students and allowing this project to happen."
