WILBURTON, Oklahoma – Eastern Oklahoma State College's meat and livestock judging teams have achieved significant success at recent national events, showcasing their dedication and expertise in the field.

Eastern’s meat judging team earned international recognition by winning the National Western Stock Show Meat Judging Contest, held at the JBS Beef Production Facility in Greeley, Colo. The team secured first place in questions, beef judging, and lamb judging; third in beef grading; and fifth in pork judging. Eastern competed against not only teams from around the country, but against international teams, as well.

Individually, Hannah Morphis was recognized as the high individual overall, placing first in questions and lamb judging, second in beef judging and placings, and fourth in pork judging. Cadence Myers secured sixth overall, with notable placements in lamb judging and beef grading. Other team members, including Averie Bain, Bailyn Hill, Robert Kincade, Dylan Neely, Gracie Ward and Eli Whitney also delivered commendable performances.

"I am very proud of these students for their accomplishments,” said Jade Edwards, meat processing & food safety instructor and meat judging coach. “The NWSS is the first AMSA-sponsored contest of the season and it is very exciting to win. The kids have been working hard since August to achieve the lofty goals they have set for themselves and I know they will continue to push for success the rest of the season."

At the Cattlemen's Congress, held from Jan. 4 to 16 in Oklahoma City, the livestock judging team distinguished itself with notable team and individual performances. The team secured sixth place in the sheep and goats category and ninth in swine. Individually, Caden Goodson achieved 12th overall and first in sheep and goats, while Kennedy Edwards placed fifth in sheep and goats.

During the National Western Stock Show, which took place from Jan. 11 to 26 in Denver, team members continued to excel. Kennedy Edwards earned 10th overall, Carson Crain secured third in feedlot cattle, and Cooper Horn placed seventh in feedlot cattle. In the Carload Contest, the team achieved ninth in both high team and placings, with Kaden Gregory placing seventh overall and sixth in placings.

"Our students have demonstrated exceptional commitment and skill in these competitions,” said Andrew Anderson, instructor of agriculture and livestock judging coach. “Their achievements reflect the hard work they've invested and the high standards we uphold at Eastern Oklahoma State College."

These accomplishments underscore EOSC’s commitment to excellence in agricultural education and the dedication of its students and faculty.
