Crews work on installing a new roof on Johnston Hall as part of a $1.2 million investment from the Oklahoma State Legislature for deferred maintenance.

Eastern Oklahoma State College is making significant progress in modernizing its campus, supported by a vital $1.2 million investment from the Oklahoma State Legislature for deferred maintenance. These strategic infrastructure upgrades aim to enhance both the student experience and the functionality of the campus. The projects, which include roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, and improved stormwater management, reflect EOSC's dedication to providing a safe, comfortable, and efficient learning environment. Here's an overview of the key developments:

Roof Renovations Across Campus

A comprehensive series of roofing projects is in progress, addressing approximately 45% of the buildings on the Wilburton campus. One of the most significant updates includes the complete roof replacement at the Student Center, where both the shingle and flat roof sections have been upgraded. These improvements not only enhance the building's aesthetic appeal but also bolster its weather resistance, ensuring longevity.

In addition, the college library is undergoing essential repairs to fix leaks and structural deficiencies in its roof. This project is crucial for safeguarding the interior, protecting valuable resources, and creating a comfortable study space for students, as well as ensuring leak-free office environments for staff. Several residential buildings within the college's apartment complex are also receiving new roofs, which are essential for maintaining safe and comfortable student housing.

Several academic and residential buildings are similarly benefiting from these upgrades. Pratt Hall, home to English and Humanities classes, and Gunning Hall, where Nursing courses are held, are receiving new roofs. This project extends to Choctaw and Johnston Halls, which house the men's and women’s dormitories. The new roofs will not only improve the buildings' durability but also enhance energy efficiency and weather resilience, contributing to a more sustainable campus environment.

HVAC System Upgrades for Greater Comfort and Efficiency

Beyond the roofing projects, significant upgrades to the campus's HVAC systems are also underway. New climate control systems are being installed in Choctaw and Johnston Halls, as well as in Gunning Hall, which hosts the Nursing program. These updates will greatly enhance air quality and climate control within the buildings, ensuring a comfortable environment for students and staff while boosting energy efficiency across the campus.

Stormwater Management Improvements

To complement these renovations, EOSC is upgrading its stormwater management infrastructure. New gutter systems are being installed on key buildings, including the Fieldhouse, Mitchell Hall, home to the Business division, Baker Hall, which houses Mountaineer Radio and the Agriculture Division, and Gunning Hall, where the Nursing division is located. These upgrades are designed to improve the efficiency of rainwater collection, helping to protect the buildings from water damage and reduce soil erosion around their foundations.

A Strong Commitment to Campus Modernization

The ongoing infrastructure improvements at Eastern Oklahoma State College demonstrate a clear commitment to enhancing campus facilities for the benefit of the entire college community. By focusing on critical areas such as roofing, HVAC upgrades, and stormwater management, EOSC is ensuring that its campus remains a safe, energy-efficient, and modern space conducive to learning and personal growth.

These projects are not only necessary for maintaining the college’s physical assets but are also key to sustaining the high-quality educational environment for which EOSC is known. As these improvements take shape, EOSC is positioning itself to continue being a vital institution in Wilburton and across Oklahoma for years to come. With the support of state investment, the college is safeguarding its future, creating a campus that is resilient, efficient, and better equipped to serve the needs of its students, faculty, and staff.
