WILBURTON, Oklahoma – Eastern Oklahoma State College hosted Sen. James Lankford on its Wilburton campus on Tuesday.

Sen. Lankford spent an hour visiting with Eastern students, including members of the President’s Leadership Class and U.S. Government students.

“I enjoyed how Sen. Lankford interacted with us, the students, communicating with complete honesty and transparency no matter the topic,” said Geralyn Haney, PLC member. “Faith and government, policies, and even the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump were just a few of the issues discussed. Though they might have been challenging to talk about in such a crucial time in American government, hearing the hope and expectation that Sen. Lankford possessed helped us understand how hard everyone is working at the Capitol currently."

The senator talked to the students about how the federal government works, how he became involved in politics and answered students’ questions. He stressed the importance of cooperation and respect when interacting with people who have different viewpoints and beliefs.

“We are excited to have Sen. Lankford come to campus,” said Eastern President Dr. Janet Wansick. “Providing opportunities for our students to interact with elected officials and learn more about the political process is important. Sen. Lankford brings a wealth of experience and we are thankful he took time to visit with our students.”
