Eastern students named to 2021 All-Oklahoma Academic Team, receive scholarships

WILBURTON, Okla. – Two Eastern Oklahoma State College students were recently recognized for their outstanding academic success with scholarships.
Taylor Chambers, a sophomore agricultural economics major from Tushka, and Alton Jones Jr., a sophomore life science major from McAlester, were named to the 2021 All-Oklahoma Academic Team. Chambers will receive an $850 cash scholarship to attend Oklahoma State University in the fall. Jones will receive a $1,600 cash scholarship to attend Northeastern State University in the fall.
Chambers was also selected as a 2021 New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship.
Both students are active on campus and in the community. Chambers serves as the president of EOSC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Eastern Student Government Association vice president, Aggie Club vice president, Agricultural Ambassador, soils judging team member and meats judging team member. She has also been awarded the EOSC Presidential Scholarship and been named to the President’s Honor Roll for three semesters to date.
Jones serves as the vice president of service of EOSC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, ESGA secretary, student and worship leader for EOSC’s Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and a member of the Math and Science Club. He has also been awarded the EOSC Presidential Scholarship, the George and Donna Nigh Leadership Endowment Scholarship and been named to the President’s Honor Roll for three semesters to date.
The All-Oklahoma Academic Team is co-sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges. Two students from each two-year college in Oklahoma are selected for the team based on their academic performance and service to the college and community. To be eligible, students must be nominated by their college president and have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
